Besides collaborating with the Education Department, the Dance Department is also partnering with Luna Institute, who has been deeply engaged in building the credentials. The Dance Department has been hiring the director of Luna Institute, Patricia Reedy for years; she offers a teaching seminar to Mills dance graduate students. Ms. Reedy is a graduate of Mills and she is invested in the idea of bringing the credential program to Mills.
This is a new market and we believe there is a high demand, since no one can teach in a public school without those credentials. We would like to begin offering the teaching credentials to the graduate students (adding one more year to our MA or MFA program) and eventually create a "4 + 1" for the undergraduate community. To fulfill the requirements for the credentials, we would plan to have summer courses. The Education Department is currently working with the Dance Department to build the program.
